Secondly, many of today’s comedians’ acts include jokes about various races, such as African Americans, Caucasians, Asians, and Mexicans, that affect how people portray themselves as well as other races. Comedians, such as Dave Chappelle and Russell Peters, make a living off of racial jokes by making fun of traits of different races as well as using discriminating terms including “redneck”, “nigga”, “chinks”, “small eyes” or “stupid”. Like songs, PEOPLE TALK AND JOKE ABOUT COMEDIAN'S JOKES because they’re seen as funny or entertaining. In our society today, WE ASSOCIATE certain stereotypes with certain races. Having comedians tell jokes about these stereotypes not only promote them, but allow them to spread throughout societies, saying that they’re acceptable. People aren’t aware of the effects of stereotypes, which degrade many races and are taken offensively. As comedians continue to present their audience with jokes about a particular race’s trait or behavior, SOCIETY CREATES issues about self image and racism between groups or an individual, which obstructs the goal of world peace.

Stereotypes and discrimination CAN BE OVERCOME. WE MUST HAVE an open mind and accept a person for who they are, not what they look like. ALSO WE NEED the ability to judge a person by their words and actions. “The more one knows about a group, the more one is able to penetrate beyond to group to the individual…. the individual stands out and so can be noticed in his or her own right” (McColgan, pg 42). It is our duty to end the damages of discrimination. WE CAN DO THIS by learning about our neighbors and working together as one.

Every one will become low self-esteem and lack of confidence kind of person IF OTHERS IGNORE AND UNDERESTIMATE them and so will African American. BLACK PEOPLE are creative and talented on top of that they dare to express their ability in front of public. However, BECAUSE OTHERS' IGNORANCE AND PREJUDICE, THEY become not confident anymore and have low self esteem. As a result of having this low self esteem, they no longer dare to speak their oppinions or thoughts while some of them tend to be passive and silent, others could completely different actions and become aggressively annoying with their bad attitudes. THEY DO THIS because they're trying to get people's attention. THEY WANT SOCIETY TO NOTICE THEM. They commit violent action, make riots and disturbances to make people see them. Both these low self esteem and super annoying system are negatively impact not only black people themselves but also our society.

Self-expression is the basis of all art, SO IF we make an attempt to express ourselves in art (writing), we must actually know what we are trying to express! What kinds of feelings, thoughts, events, etc.? LEO TOLSTOY SAID, “By words one transmits thoughts to another, by means of art, one transmits feelings. “ INTERPRETING TOLSTOY’S WORDS, A TALENTED WRITER CAN TRANSFER HIS OR HER EMOTIONS AND IDEAS BY WRITING ARTISTICALLY. If we could watch a sculptor work on a new sculpture carved from marble, stone or wood, what would we see in the case of writing? A paper and a pen. WRITING IS ONE OF THE KINDS OF ART AND SELF-EXPRESSION ACCORDINGLY. Using writing as a mean of artistic expressions of one’s thoughts can, in a number of ways, make one’s life happier. Let me think about the songwriters. What would happen if we remove the lyrics and will hear only the music? The result often can be predictable- boring. Another example of taking creative process is graffiti that also MAKES powerful messages for people. IN REFERENCE TO THE OTHER KINDS OF ART GRAFFITI REQUARE NEITHER EXPENSIVE TOOLS FOR PAINTING NOR EVEN SPECIAL SKILLS; THE MAIN THING IS JUST TO HAVE STRONG AND WELL FORMULATED IDEA. YET GRAFFITI IS RECOGNIZED AS ART. The purpose of the different kinds of art is to help us to communicate more clearly. COMMUNICATION IS A TWO-WAY STREET, SO PEOPLE SHOULD USE ALL THE POSSIBLE VARIANTS OF EXPRESSION THEIR THOUGHTS INCLUDING CREATIVE WRITING FOR ACHIEVING OF SELF-FULFILMENT.

In closing, discrimination should not be tolerated. WE SHOULD NOT STEROETYPE ANYONE ELSE'S PAST HISTORY, CLOTHING OR RACE. We can solve this probelm by unlearning what were taight and by coming together as a positive unity.

EVEN THOUGH stereotyping occurs everyday, WE MUST BE AWARE OF ITS CONSEQUENCES IN ORDER TO KEEP IT FROM COMPLETELY DIVIDING US. TO BE aware of this means that we must be conscious of whom we stereotype and TO WHAT EXTENT WE DO IT. AS WE MEET new people throughout the day, we derive whether they are approachable or not BY STEREOTYPING. Stereotyping is a part of us, just as is our will to survive. ALTHOUGH it may be a part of our nature, WE CAN NOT LET THE MANY DIFFERENT EFFECTS OF STEREOTYPING TAKE ADVANTAGE OF US. There are already many stereotypes out there for at least every type of person, those which have been fueled by the history of ‘repetitive’ behavior. THE DIFFERENCES WE ALL HAVE MAKE US UNIQUE, BUT WE MUST LEARN TO ACCEPT EACHOTHER FOR WHO WE ARE SO THAT IN TURN WE MAY BE ACCEPTED. IF WE AQUIRE THIS THRIVING AWARENESS it may hopefully bring about a unification of the human race, so next time you see somebody different, say ‘hello’.

From the time we were born up until this very moment, we have learned through association, AND HOW WE PERCEIVE OTHERS IS NO EXCEPTION. Common examples include associating the color pink with femininity, glasses with being a nerd, or suits with businessmen. Although we relate these paradigms with appearance, they tend to have more of a negative connotation as opposed to a positive one. AFTER ALL, men can wear pink and not be depicted as feminine, just as someone wearing glasses can simply need them to improve their vision or wear them for stylistic purposes; and a man wearing a suit can just be on his way to a wedding. IN MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, i attended a private elementary school and was required to wear a uniform. When people saw me in that uniform they automatically assumed that i was a snobbish rich kid and didn't take too much interest in me. I was not given a chance before being labeled. These associations are etched into our brains because we apply them to everything. Soon we start to make broader assumptions, which lead ti stereotypes and prejudice. We make a habit of these superficial misconceptions, thus not allowing other people a chance to show their actual selves or allowing ourselves to explore the diversity that people offer.

In contrast, people may become more accustomed to listen sexual and violent music when the people always listen to the songs with violent or sexual lyrics, especially youths because the youngsters are still immature. According to the article, “Eminem : Pied Piper Of Hate” by Robin Tyler, “Increasingly, we are becoming addicted to violence. As we become desensitized to violence, we need to up the ante: the edge is farther out: extremes become the norm: and the violence escalates” (282). FURTHER, ONE EXPERIMENT TELLS US BAD SONGS CAN INFLUENCE PEOPLE‘S THOUGHT OR EVER THEIR BEHAVIOR. The study, which appears in the may issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, compared the effects of seven songs with violent lyrics to eight nonviolent songs among a group of more than 500 college students over a series of five experiments. The students listened to the songs and then were given a series of psychological tests to measure aggressive thoughts and feelings. The study found that songs with violent lyrics consistently increased aggressive feelings and thoughts. ALSO, SONGS WITH VIOLENT LYRICS COULD LEAD TO VIOLENT BEHAVIOR LATER BECAUSE TEENAGERS BECOME DESENSITIZED TO VIOLENCE AND SEX WHEN THEY ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE IMPROPER MUSIC. THEREFORE, LISTENING TO THE INAPPROPRIATE MUSIC MAY CAUSE MORE CRIMES IN OUR SOCIETY WHEN THE PEOPLE BECOME TOLERANT OF VIOLENCE.

“Reading face, the window to the soul?” (Zebronitz). Today, many people prejudge others based on their appearance. Others, however, argue that judging people by their physical appearance causes many bad effects. Some people believe defining others by their clothes, hairstyles, or body art is reasonable. But I do not put any emphasis on what the advantages of judging a person by physical appearance, because stereotypes are absolute wrong. Judging a person just by his/her appearance is like a double-edged sword, not only will you hurt the person whom you made the wrong judgment about, but you will also suffer if your judgment is incorrect.

Another controversial form of art is seen through music.ANOTHER CONTROVERSIAL FORM OF ART IS MUSIC Music is an efficient way of spreading hate because of the fact that music is so readily available to us. With just one switch of a button you can turn on a radio and hear all kinds of different music. This becomes an issue when looking at racism and sexism because of the music which is popular today.THIS BECOMES AN ISSUE WHEN LOOKING AT RACISM AND SEXISM BECAUSE OF POPULAR MUSIC TODAY. Derogatory words for women, as well as for different races is prominent within pop music and hip hop. If you look at the Billboard Music Charts the number two song in the week of September 29, 2007 is called "Crank That (Soulja Boy)".THE NUMBER TWO SONG OF THE WEEK IS "CRANK THAT." If you look at the lyrics of the song they say the word “hoes” a total of eleven times. To have a song this popular use such negative terms about women is disheartening.THE USE OF SUCH NEGATIVE TERMS DISHEARTENS ME. Young boys listen to this sort of music and use the same terminology as their favorite rapper or song. This leads to women being disrespected. Also, in popular music the use of the word “nigger” is seen very often. This can be seen as racism, because although some people are using it in an embracing way there are still people out there who do not feel comfortable hearing the word. The word has a history of hate behind it, so keeping the word in circulation through popular music is a form of racism.

JACQUELINE THANH**
One of those individuals that took up the challenge to not only account history, bridge gaps for generations, and also truly using writing as an ultimate power of moving people and governments would have to be Iris Chang. As an activist for the Nan King remembrance society which acknowledges the 300,000 plus non-combatant deaths because of the Japanese imperial army, she fought along side the few women that have survived the rape and mutilation of their youth, bodies, and countries. Her commanding presence when she spoke invoked attention to her words written AND she brought a painful part of forgotten history back to life to give those effected and generations of people effected some peace and justice; traveling all over the world, interviewing victims and witnesses still alive, looking for documented artifacts, she found brave words to describe a part of history so dark that it killed her. Before the death of Iris Chang her research and books WERE published to not only record down history in it’s entirety but to attain peace for an entire generation gone silenced in the silent holocaust. Though she has not completed her dream of acknowledgement from the Japanese government of their military crimes and stop them from worshiping war criminals even with her evidence of the true accounts in history I believe she has began a revolution with her work. Her writing was a revolution all in it’s own for peace and as she once said in an interview with China News Digest discussing the atrocities of Nan king, “We should see it as a story that transcends what the Japanese did to the Chinese and a metaphor of what a human being can do to another human being. We have to be vigilant to understand how these atrocities happened and make sure that power is defused among people in a democratic system, because it seems that only democracy prevents these kinds of things from happening.” CHANG sought justice with her words AND IN DOING SO united people and communities with the IDEAS AND BELIEFS behind her writing. The Japanese government in censoring her work blinded generations of Japanese civilians and students to a part of their government’s military downfall in history – and how can you grow without understanding what mistakes you have made?

LOOK DISCRIMINATION OCCURS FOR MANY REASONS, even from people who are not ‘racist’ and don’t mean to be prejudice against others. In the past, people were unaccustomed to diversity and feared the unknown, which lead to the discrimination of those that were different than them. Today, our fast paced society causes us to have little time to judge people properly, based on who they are. In urban areas, the pace of life moves very quickly and everything is impersonal. PEOPLE HAVE SO MUCH TO KEEP UP WITH THAT SOMETIMES IT IS HARD TO MAKE PERSONAL CONNECTIONS. THE NEED TO JUGGLE EVERYTHING IN LIFE MAKES QUICK JUDGMENTS OF OTHERS AN ESSENTIAL TOOL TO KEEP UP. Another reason THAT PEOPLE JUDGE OTHERS BASED ON LOOKS is that our society makes appearances important. The media focuses so strongly on outside appearances in advertisements and movies that it enforces the stereotypes that people have engrained into them, which can lead people to judge others based on those expectations. We expect to be judged by how we look, therefore we judge others as such.

It is typical for humans to want to do things that they were not inherently designed for, hence our world of technology. JUST AS HUMANS ATTEMPT TO JUDGE OTHERS IN WAYS THEY ARE NOT DESIGNED TO, HUMANS CREATE TECHNOLOGY TO ALLOW THEM TO DO THINGS THEY COULD NOT DO OTHERWISE. With this, it is understandable that a human would attempt to judge something using tools to make what would otherwise be impossible to judge, judgeable. However, when a human attempts to circumvent the usage of these tools, HE/SHE CREATES A PROBLEM. Consider the job interview process. In a standard job interview, two people meet in a room for a conversation in which someone’s eligibility for a job is discerned. The person making the hire is supposed to judge the hiree’s ability to work in the designated field. If the hirer uses the proper tools to judge the persons ability then the process works as it should. Sometimes this is not the case. If the hirer judges the person based on physical appearance alone we have a problem BECAUSE the hirer is not using all of his/her available tools. This is a common form of discrimination which at the micro level can have negative effects.

Everyone has his or her own personality and styles, BUT WHEN OTHERS JUGE THOSE STYLES, THEY CAN CREATE PROBLEMS. According to the Psychology Themes by Wagne Weiten, it mentions that HIS OR HER INHERITANCE AND PAST EXPERIENCE CAN DETERMINE ONE’S PERSONALITY. In another words, BOTH THE NATURE AND NURTURE CAN DETERMINE ONE’S BEHAVIOR.Therefore, IRRELEVANT PEOPLE SHOULD FOCUS ON ONE’S HIDDEN CHARCTERISTIC, BUT NOT ONLY HIS OR HER OUTER LOOK.

Revision
Paragraph 1

The Negative Consequences of Judging People on Their Physical Appearance

Have you ever made any kind of assumption before you get to know someone?
Have you ever been in a position where you wanted a job so badly, but they did not hire you because OF your physical appearance? People often make assumptions about groups of people on their physical appearance by using a set of guidelines or their past experiences. These assumptions can lead to stereotypes, which are often harmful and can cause one to not only make unfair judgments about others but also potentially cause a relationship to end. Almost everyone would agree not to judge a book by its cover. However, people often pick up a book with shiny and attractive cover. As human beings are likely to be attracted things or people that are attractive to us, we are taught to favor someone or something that appeals to our eyes. Consequently, we have to admit that physical appearance matters in today’s society. MOREOVER, WE OFTEN ASSUME OR SAY SOMETHING THAT WE HAD ALWAYS THOUGHT WAS RIGHT FROM OUR OWN PERSPECTIVE, BUT ARE OFTEN MISTAKEN. The conceptions or opinions that people make are over-generalized and over-simplified. When we develop ideas about people, we are forming stereotypes, which are not completely accurate and might cause someone to act unfairly and unjustly towards others, which often times cause a lot of serious problems in our society.
